Happy Monday All!! Today I have a quick post of the polish I wore over the weekend. It's called Jewel In The Crown by Deborah Lippmann. This polish is part of the Precious Metals Trio exclusive to Juicy Couture. I ordered this online around Christmas when they were on sale..
this trio includes: Jewel In The Crown, Believe, and Here Comes The Queen
Jewel In The Crown:
Jewel In The Crown is described as: "a shimmery highly metallic pewter." This color is highly pigmented and easily could have been a one-coater. There's tiny glitter sparkles in the polish, but you really can't see them once you apply the polish. I wish metallics weren't notorious for streaking because I really like them, but Jewel In The Crown streaked pretty badly. I still liked it though. It's a unique polish that's perfect to wear for a nice night out :)
I'm going to attempt some Valentine Manis in the next week or two. I have a few ideas in my head, we'll see how they come together :)
Wow, it's Saturday already.. that means another Skeptical Saturday Mani Post. Today I chose two Material Girl Polishes I purchased a while back while shopping online at Macy's. I'm pretty sure these polishes are exclusive to Macy's. They are from Madonna and her daughter, Lola's new line of clothing, make-up etc... The look of these bottles mimic those of butter LONDON so closely. I've read varies stories about a possible lawsuit from butter LONDON vs Material Girl Polishes... who knows??
I've been leery about trying these two because the colors aren't what I expected. (That's what you get for trying to pick a color online). Today is a perfect day to give them a try..
First up is Psychedelic:
The last of these three pictures best represents what Psychedelic looks like in real life. On Macy's site, it's described as: " A provocative, vivacious violet shimmer." I usually like blue-based purples (like the first two pictures). This one is more red based. It's pretty, it's just not my favorite type of purple. Psychedelic is very sheer. Pictured is three coats.
Next is Labyrinth:
Labyrinth over Psychedelic
Labyrinth over Psychedelic
Labyrinth is described as: "An unexpected rainbow of pink glitter." I'm not sure why they'd call it pink glitter. It's medium sized round rainbow glitter in a clear base. It's really gritty like sea salt and OMG did it stink!! I applied two coats over Psychedelic, took pictures, and removed it asap!! I had to crack a window for this one.. but it is pretty. I think I'd like it better over black. (I'll wear a gas mask if I ever use it again)
I'm not sure if these polishes are 3 FREE. I can't seem to find that info anywhere. They're both pretty colors, but I don't think I'll be buying any more. Do you have any Material Girl Polishes? What do you think of them?
My last watermarbleturned out quite well, so I'm going to keep practicing. When I chose the colors for this water marble, I was thinking "traditional tie dye colors." I used Bettina Polishes for my last marble because I knew they were supposed to work well. With this one, I just grabbed the colors I thought looked best.
Here are the colors I chose:
L to R: Dr.'s Remedy NOBLE Navy, China Glaze Sunshine POP, OPI Alpine Snow, China Glaze Hey Sailor, and Sally Hansen Blue Me Away!
With my last marble, I used white as the base coat and had little bubbles that chipped and the white base showed through, so this time I decided to use Hey Sailor as the base.. that was a bad choice because the yellow (Sunshine Pop) kinda looks orange-y. Take a look:
A few "bubbles" wound up on this marble, too. I even made sure I withdrew my hand slowly from the water, tapped the side of the glass, AND blew on them. Regardless, I'm happy with this result. I'm really catching on and I think I'll do these more often. I have to give credit to Colette at My Simple Little Pleasures. She does amazing marbles and I've watched her tutorials on youtube a billion times!!
Hey Everyone!! I'm really excited about today's post! I recently discovered Dollish Polish on Etsy, ordered a few, swatched two and fell in love already!! I'm totally new to this brand, but it seems all (or most of) the polishes are named after movies and the two I chose to show you today are named after two of my all-time favorite movies.. Sixteen Candles and Heathers!!
First up is I <3 Jake Ryan:
Sixteen Candles is my all-time favorite movie EVER. HANDS DOWN. This color could have been completely repulsive and I would have bought it just for the name!!
I <3 Jake Ryan was inspired by the color of Molly Ringwald's (Sam's) bridesmaid's dress from her sister's wedding at the end of the movie... (Remember her crazy sister took all those muscles relaxers right before her wedding???!) Anyway, I'm not too crazy about the color LOL. It's a sheer light lavender. Pictured above is three coats. Don't get me wrong, the formula was fantastic, I just don't like frosty lavenders.
OK.. here is the part where I fell in love. I also picked the color Nice Scrunchy, Heather because it's named after those red scrunchies all the "Heathers" would wear in the movie "Heathers." Remember?..
All the popular girls wanted to be "red." Red Everything. I really have to re-watch this one! It's a classic.
The polish Nice Scrunchy, Heather is a beautiful cherry red HOLO!:
Ahh.. we had zero sun when I swatched this! I tried to capture the holo-goodness with the flash and you can definitely see it, but I wish the sun would shine soon around here because I'm excited to wear this one again!! Nice Scrunchy Heather is so beautiful even in low light (see first picture). Usually I'm not that crazy about holos indoors without sunlight, but this one is absolutely gorgeous!! Nice Scrunchy, Heather is easily on my top 10 current favorite polish list!! This polish applied like a dream..I barely had anything to clean up! Two coats of Nice Scrunchy and you're good to go!! I even went back to Etsy to purchase a full-sized bottle!!
I love Dollish Polishes!! I just placed another order with her!! You should definitely run quickly to Dollish Polish on Etsy and pick up a few today. Prices are great and customer service & shipping are fantastic!! I can't wait to receive my next order!! :)
Happy Pink Wednesday!! Today's post is just a quickie of Revlon's Starry Pink. I know you've all seen this one a zillion times, but I haven't tried it yet, so... here it is one more time...
Revlon Starry Pink over LASplash Starfish Dream:
Starry Pink could have been worn alone, but I decided to layer it over Starfish Dream just to make the pink "pop" just a little more! Above pictures are two coats of Starry Pink. Of course I like this color because it's pink.. but I don't love it. I like darker pinks much better. Starry Pink is full of micro-glitter and larger silver hex glitter is a milky light pink base. Starry Pink went on evenly (for a glitter) and it was pretty smooth to the touch unlike most glitters this dense.
HAPPY PINK WEDNESDAY!!
I'm excited for tomorrow's post! It will feature my first DollishPolish's and I fell absolutely, head over heels in love with one of them!! :)
I'm excited for this post!! I have my first NerdLacquer to share with you!! I'm really enjoying trying "indie" polishes or "frankens." I've discovered a few brands on Etsy and Nerdlacquer is one of them!! Today's polish is called "Crunchy Frog." Crunchy Frog is described as: "A revoltingly gorgeous milk chocolate shimmer base with emerald glitter, small and medium grass green hexagonal glitter, olive microglitter, and large chunks of silvery white (the bones)." Crunchy Frog is "a chocolate mint."
.
The name comes from Monty Python
Here are two coats of Crunchy Frog over Orly Prince Charming:
Crunchy Frog really could have been worn alone with three coats, but Orly Prince Charming matched the base color so closely, I decided to apply a coat in case opacity wasn't as thick as I thought. I really love this polish. It kinda does look like frog guts ;) Application was easy and the glitter wasn't "gritty" at all! I also bought "Data Squirrel" the same time as "Crunchy Frog", so I'm looking forward to wearing that one also!!
I was also pleased with NerdLacquer's customer service. They threw in a free bottle of polish for shipping delay (although I thought it didn't take that long at all). Oh, they also included a cute little fuzzy black ring! :) If you are interested in purchasing some of these fun colors, they are available on their Etsy Store for $8 each (for a full sized bottle). I highly recommend them!! :)
Hi! I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Today I have "Elle's Spell" by Barielle. This is a pretty popular polish.. when I did a google image search, there were tons of results. Instead of swatching Elle's Spell on it's own, I decided to apply it over Dr.'s Remedy Noble Navy for this post. On to the swatches..
Elle's Spell over Dr.'s Remedy Noble Navy:
with flash
Elle's Spell is a red jelly packed full of flakies. I tried it once before on its own and wasn't too impressed. I like it much better over a darker color. Above pictures are two coats. Elle's Spell was the first Barielle polish I purchased. I've only bought maybe 3 more and sad to say, I really don't like any of them. The brush is wonky with two of them (uneven bristles) and I just wasn't impressed with the formula. Elle's Spell is pretty over Noble Navy...I'm just not a fan of Barielle.. Wait, I do like their Nail Strengthener Cream, that's about it.
Do you have Elle's Spell? What are your thoughts on Barielle products?
Hey Everyone.. It's time for another Skeptical Saturday Mani. I know this one is late. It's after 10pm on Saturday, but I didn't have time earlier to post. butter LONDON just released their Spring Collection and Trout Pout is part of it. I ordered a few of these online at rickysnyc.com and was pleasantly surprised with their extremely fast shipping!!
Trout Pout is described as: "An opaque shade of cantaloupe- pale and retro." It kinda reminds me of My Skeptical Saturday Post of Zoya Maya...only lighter. I don't usually like peachy corals (or corals, period), but I decided to give Trout Pout a shot..
butter LONDON Trout Pout:
Trout Pout is another one of those colors I really don't care for in person, but I like it in pictures. I wore this color for a few hours, then removed it. I just don't like it on me. The formula wasn't that great either. I had to apply three coats and Trout Pout was still a bit streaky. This one goes up for swaps.. Anyone interested?
Hey Everyone!! Today's polish is from ManGlaze. If you're not familiar with this brand, you may want to check out their Facebook Page to get an idea of their wicked sense of humor. (I love it, but you may not).
I love Santorum! (You may want to plug this word in to the Urban Dictionary). This polish is named after the super conservative, Rick Santorum (a candidate in the 2012 Republican Party presidential primaries who also loves sweater vests and strongly opposes same-sex marriages). I am no republican, so the name of this polish and what it refers to cracks me up! (and kinda makes me sick at the same time LOL)
OK, enough about politics--- on to the polish!! I love browns. A lot of people don't. When I found out ManGlaze created a dark brown matte, I had to order it ASAP!!
Here is Santorum (without topcoat):
Santorum (alone- no topcoat)
Santorum- (alone- no topcoat)
ManGlaze makes the best matte polishes I've ever tried! With other brands, mattes seem to dry too fast and become clumpy. Application with ManGlaze is a breeze! Santorum is a dark chocolate brown... but look what happens when you apply a shiny topcoat..........
Santorum with CND Super Shiney Topcoat:

Santorum with CND Super Shiney Topcoat--WITH FLASH
This color is beautiful with a topcoat!! It's more reddish-brown with a bunch of tiny sparkly goodness!! I don't care if the name of this polish kinda makes me nauseous... I love it!! I'm glad I grabbed it when I did for two reasons: 1.) I'm pretty sure Rick Santorum will drop out of the race soon (thank God), therefore, I'm pretty sure ManGlaze will re-name Santorum as no one will even remember who he is in a few months LOL.. and 2.) The first 10 people who ordered Santorum (yes, I was one ) also received a bottle of ManGlaze Lesbi-honest!! Yay!! I'll be sure to do a post of that one soon!! Thanks, ManGlaze.. for the laughs and for awesome polish!!
Here are the colors I used from China Glaze's new Electropop Collection:
L to R- basecoat: Sweet Hook. Splatter Colors: Electric Beat, Gaga For Green, Gothic Lolita, Fuchsia Fanatic
Start by choosing a base coat. I used two coats of Sweet Hook. After your base is dry.. start your splatter by dipping a drinking straw in each polish and blowing polish on to each finger. (follow Sarah's instructions above).
Here's the finished product:
this pic was taken without topcoat incase it smeared ;)
with topcoat
with topcoat
with topcoat
I took a few pictures before I applied the topcoat in case the polish smeared (the only pic without topcoat is the one with the green bottle.) You have to wait a while for the splatter to dry. I applied China Glaze's Fast Forward Topcoat with little smearing (thank God). The formula in the hot pink color (Fuchsia Fanatic) was kinda runny, so it didn't splatter too well... it just kinda landed in "blobs."
This mani is retro and fun and takes me back to the 80's! Try a Splatter Mani soon. They're easier than you'd think!! :)
Happy Wednesday, Pink Wednesday!! I have a deep magenta pink to share with you today from a brand new to me called "Topshop." My friend Rhonni (she really is a Polish Ninja), picked this up for me while she was shopping with other polish buddies in Chicago.
Here's Topshop- One Hot Minute:
One Hot Minute
Look how cute the bottle is!! I think that's the main reason I wanted this! :)
One Hot Minute is such a pretty magenta. I love berry-colored pinks! The formula was great, it applied so smoothly. I applied three coats for full opacity. If you can find this brand, I'd recommend picking up a few.. they're fun!!
The cute dots on the handle made me think of Wet n Wild's Tangled in My Web. I've had this polish since October and haven't used it, so now is the perfect opportunity..
One Hot Minute topped with Tangled in My Web:
It's fun, right?? :) This is two coats of Tangled in My Web. I thought I may need three or more coats because not much glitter stuck after the first coat, but I was wrong and two coats did the trick!! I hope you all enjoyed this mani as much as I did!!
